The iScan 180se performs a Forward Vertical scan sending a forward-looking beam from the surface ahead to the bottom below. The Forward Vertical scan is particularly useful navigating unfamiliar waters, detecting coral, rock pinnacles and other submerged objects directly ahead of the vessel.
In horizontal mode the beam scans over a 180 degree segment from 90 degrees to port to 90degrees to starboard. In shallow waters the horizontal mode can show the location of underwater channels, breaks in reefs and help direct the captain away from danger.
